The use and design of the instructional materials facilitate student learning. The design of the materials is consistent, simple, and not distracting. The curriculum map and module and unit overviews make lesson structure and pacing clear. The 87 weeks of instruction is reasonable for a school year. The instructional materials reviewed for Grade 8 meet the expectations for materials being accompanied by a text complexity analysis and rationale for educational purpose and placement in the grade level. The Curriculum Map includes the quantitative Lexile measure of central texts for each Module.
Resources are provided on to meet the needs of students who are below grade level or an English Language Learner with opportunities to work with grade-level text and meet or exceed grade-level standards.

The Liberty University Online Academy s Creative Writing course is a semester long course that explores different genres of writing, through both reading and writing, as well as the other necessary elements needed to improve writing and composition skills. This course is designed with the goal of inspiring students to develop original pieces and ideas. Through writing and thinking students will learn to become better readers, writers, and thinkers. The skills focused on in this course will help students in other courses as well, especially English. Writing genres covered are autobiographies, family storytelling, fairy tales, fantasies, short stories, and journals.
